Modern warfare is undergoing a rapid transformation as autonomous systems move from experimental tools to core battlefield infrastructure. From Ukraine to the Middle East, drones have proven their strategic value in surveillance, interdiction, and precision operations, prompting defense agencies worldwide to accelerate procurement of unmanned technologies.

Shares of Quantum Cyber N.V. (Nasdaq: QUCY) are soaring Wednesday after the company announced an exclusive intellectual property licensing agreement with BP United Inc., securing access to an autonomous drone technology platform aimed at the defense market.

Quantum Cyber, which is assembling what it describes as a quantum-ready autonomous defense platform company, said the agreement gives it exclusive rights to BP United’s drone technology portfolio, including a sky defense autonomous platform capable of operating at ranges exceeding 25 kilometers. The system supports fully autonomous takeoff, navigation, and landing, and is designed for surveillance, interdiction, and payload delivery missions with encrypted communications.

Importantly, the agreement goes beyond intellectual property rights alone. BP United is also expected to enter into a commercial supply arrangement with Quantum Cyber covering production and delivery of autonomous systems that have already been tested and positioned for near-term deployment.

The announcement arrives as autonomous warfare spending becomes a major strategic focus in Washington. According to the company, the Trump administration is seeking approximately $55 billion for drone and autonomous warfare programs in the fiscal 2027 defense budget, a dramatic jump from roughly $225 million the prior year. If enacted, that would represent one of the most aggressive expansions of autonomous defense spending in recent memory.

Quantum Cyber says this transaction represents the first step in building a broader “System-of-Systems” defense platform spanning drone warfare, counter-unmanned aerial systems, autonomous demining, command-and-control technologies, and quantum-enhanced defense applications.

“This is the first building block of what we are assembling at Quantum Cyber,” Chief Executive Officer David Lazar said in the company’s announcement, adding that the company is also advancing intellectual property tied to quantum antenna technology.

Chief Financial Officer Bill Caragol said the structure gives Quantum Cyber both an exclusive IP position and a commercial supply pathway, potentially accelerating the path toward revenue generation as the broader technology stack is assembled.

The company added that additional technology agreements, patent filings, and new system-layer developments could be announced in the near term.

Shares of QUCY are ahead 52.5% to $0.49 in Wednesday morning trading.
