Demand for critical minerals continues to pull investor attention toward companies capable of building large-scale resource inventories in politically stable jurisdictions. Nickel, a key input for electric vehicle batteries and stainless steel, remains one of the metals drawing long-term interest as developers work to define resources big enough to support decades of future mine development.

Shares of Canada Nickel Company Inc. (TSX-V: CNC) (OTCQB: CNIKF) are trading higher Thursday after the company announced an initial mineral resource estimate for its Nesbitt Nickel Sulphide Project and a significant expansion at its Deloro project, completing the first phase of resource development across its Timmins Nickel District.

Nesbitt becomes Canada Nickel's ninth defined deposit in the district. The initial estimate outlines 176 million tonnes grading 0.23% nickel, containing roughly 0.41 million tonnes of nickel, drawn from 28 drill holes and contained within two conceptual open pits. At Deloro, the updated estimate delivered a 46% increase in indicated contained nickel and a 39% increase in inferred contained nickel versus the July 2024 resource, with the deposit remaining open to the northeast, southwest, and at depth.

Together, the nine deposits now hold 4.36 billion tonnes of measured and indicated resources grading 0.24% nickel, for more than 10 million tonnes of contained nickel, plus 5.7 billion tonnes of inferred resources grading 0.23% nickel, containing roughly 13.2 million tonnes. For context, the company notes that the Sudbury Nickel District, one of the most productive nickel camps in history, held an estimated 19 million tonnes of contained nickel before mining began.

"We have now clearly demonstrated the world class potential of the Timmins Nickel District with the completion of our ninth resource at Nesbitt," said Mark Selby, Chief Executive Officer of Canada Nickel. He added that seven additional targets remain untested, three of which carry a geophysical footprint larger than the company's flagship Crawford project.

Location works in the company's favor. Nesbitt sits less than three kilometers northwest of Crawford and its mine footprint, accessible year-round by permanent road. Deloro lies eight kilometers south of Timmins, seven kilometers from the Dome mine-mill complex, and less than two kilometers from existing powerlines, in a camp with more than a century of mining infrastructure behind it.

Technical reports for both deposits will be filed on SEDAR+ within 45 days. Mineralogical studies, metallurgical testwork, and infill drilling aimed at upgrading higher-grade horizons continue through 2026, with the goal of advancing toward a Preliminary Economic Assessment.

Shares of CNC are up 1.4% to C$1.49, while CNIKF has gained 1.5% to $1.06 in late Thursday trading.
